Ethan Shell, a longtime HCT & KPAC student, passed away suddenly of an aortic aneurism in January.
The Ethan Shell Memorial Scholarship has been established to provide scholarship aid for students who are pursuing a formal education in the performing arts.

Congratulations to Jorey Cantu of Lihue and Kendall Layne Beck of Kapaa. Each student will receive $1,000 towards their college tuition.
Jorey Cantu graduated from Kauai High in 2009. There she had many leading roles in musicals produced by KPAC, the high school drama program, most notably the title role in HELLO DOLLY her junior year. She is the daughter of Ismael and Stacie Cantu. She has completed her freshman year at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California, where she is majoring in Musical Theater and English.
Kendall Layne Beck also graduated from Kauai High in 2009, where she had the lead role in KPAC's production of FOOTLOOSE her senior year. She is the daughter of Layne and Eric Torgerson. She has completed her freshman year at the University of Nevada/Las Vegas, where she is majoring in Stage and Screen Acting.

Scholarship Details
|

Eligibility
Criteria:
|
1) Student must be a graduating high school senior or GED recipient applying as a full time student to an accredited college or university, or a freshman year college student at an accredited college or university.
2) Must be a US Citizen and resident of the County of Kauai, State of Hawaii.
|
|
|
Application Procedure:
|
1) Applications are available for download from the Hawaii Children's Theatre website or from a member of the HCT board of directors.
2) Complete the application and send it to:
Hawaii Children's Theatre PO Box 662295 Lihue, HI 96766
no later than April 1st.
3) Include a copy of your high school transcript, your two formal letters of recommendation (one from a current or former teacher and one from a member of the community), your Student Aid Report (SAR) or Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form (if applicable).
4) Application Deadline is April 1st 2010

Selection Criteria:
|
The scholarship is administered without regard to race, creed, color, age, religion, sex, national origin or physical disability:
1) Achievement in the Performing Arts
2) Academic Achievement
3) Merit
4) Financial Need
|
|
| Applicant Interviews: |
The scholarship selection committee will meet and review all the applications. The top three applicants will be selected and interviews with the committee will be scheduled. Following the interviews the committee will vote to award the scholarship.

|
Scholarship award announcement no later than May 1st, 2010. |
|
Scholarship Amount - $1,000
Scholarship funds are paid directly to the college you plan to attend.
